Pastor of Care Ministries   

Full time salaried position (44 hours per week).           

Position Summary:

We are pleased to launch a nationwide search for an individual who will provide excellent, comprehensive pastoral care and assist in Seniors Ministry.  

Heritage Park Alliance Church – which supports a weekend attendance of roughly 1,000 people – believes that God has called us to be a loving community of fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.  We are passionate about connecting people to God, growing our faith, and serving local and global communities.   We are an attractional church with a missional heart, and small groups play an integral part in helping us live out our vision.  

Pastoral care is essential to the health of our church.  The Pastor of Care Ministries will develop a comprehensive, church-wide ministry of care and support for the church family.  He will recruit, train, equip, and release people into this ministry and develop support teams to help care for our congregation. 

 This position will also serve as a catalyst and encouragement to the seniors ministry at Heritage Park Alliance Church.  The pastor will oversee all ministry to seniors including various nursing home and long term care facilities in our vicinity, providing care and support to our senior population.

This position calls for a person who is visionary and creative in serving people.  It calls for an individual with proven leadership ability to create an effective leadership team and build a vibrant and growing care team for our senior population.  Overall we are looking for someone who has the right character, competence, chemistry, and calling for this position and works well within our culture.

 The Pastor of Care Ministries should: 

  1. Possess personal character that reflects the love and compassion of Jesus Christ.
  2. Demonstrate a level of competence in care ministries sufficient to stretch and lead a church of 1,000 into the future.
  3. Demonstrate healthy interpersonal skills, a high level of energy and a balanced lifestyle
  4. Is a spiritual example, privately and corporately in his or her prayer life, Biblical study and personal behaviour
  5. Display creativity, inventiveness, resourcefulness, initiative, perseverance and persistence.
  6. Be committed to excellence and have the ability to coach, mentor and disciple others in ministry
  7. Exhibit strong administrative and organizational skills.
  8. Convey a determination to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
  9. Demonstrate a competent level of theology, and be able to articulate his or her position on matters of faith and practice. 

10. Be committed to: team ministry; loyalty to fellow staff members; living under the authority of a District Superintendent, a Board of Elders, and a lead pastor.

11. Possess the biblical pastoral or leadership qualifications (Titus 1:6-9; I Timothy 3:1-7), agree to the statement of faith, policies and procedures of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada and the Heritage Park Alliance Church.           

Educational Requirements    

Minimum requirements preferred: 

  1. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Bible College or Seminary.
  2. Licensing and ordination sustained by The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada.
  3. Five years of pastoral experience.           

Responsibilities:   

Pastoral Care:  

  1. Be a member of the Executive Leadership Team of our church
  2. Develop and direct a comprehensive ministry of pastoral care for all church members and regular attendees.
  3. Recruit and train visitation teams.
  4. Make regular home visits.
  5. Make emergency visits to support people facing a death, hospitalization in an emergency or in other crucial circumstances.
  6. Visit Heritage Park Alliance Church members & affiliates in the hospital and follow up with families if needed.
  7. Recruit and nurture a bereavement ministry team.
  8. Perform weddings, funerals, baptisms, and baby dedications as requested or scheduled
  9. Provide counselling when it is appropriate
  10. Act as the first contact for pastoral care requests presented at the front office 

Seniors Ministry:  

  1. Serve as the liaison for ministry to seniors
  2. Preach/teach at senior events when requested to do so
  3. Provide leadership and encouragement to the leadership teams working in the senior ministry area
  4. Recruit and train visitation teams for hospital and home visits 
  5. Make emergency visits to support people facing a death, hospitalization in an emergency or in other crucial life circumstances
  6. Visit seniors in their homes, in hospital or nursing homes as required
  7. Recruit and nurture a bereavement ministry team
  8. Oversee the development of study materials for seniors
  9. Facilitate the spiritual and numerical growth of senior ministry
  10. Oversee promotion and administration of seniors ministry
  11. Improve process for integrating individuals into our seniors community           

Accountability:       

  1. The position reports to the Associate Pastor and through him to the Lead Pastor.
  2. Accountable to the District Superintendent of the Central Canadian District of the C&MA in Canada.
  3. Work with other staff members in areas interrelating with their ministries.
  4. Communicate closely with the Director of Administration & Human Resources and the Associate Pastor in sharing information for the calendar, program planning, and use of facilities.           

Budget:  Established by the Board of Elders.           

Salary:  Established annually and approved by the Finance Committee, the Board of Elders, and ultimately the Membership of HPAC
